What is Sin?
The Consequences of Sin

Before we can overcome sin, we must understand what it truly is. The Bible defines sin as more than just bad behavior. Sin is rebellion against God and falling short of His holiness.

1. Sin Defined in Scripture

The Bible says:

“All unrighteousness is sin.” – 1 John 5:17 (KJV)

Sin is anything that violates God’s commands in thought, word, or deed. It’s missing the mark of His perfect standard.

2. The Root of Sin

Sin starts in the heart before it becomes action:

“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” – James 1:14 (KJV)

Our sinful nature inclines us toward selfishness and disobedience.

3. The Consequences of Sin

Sin separates us from God and brings judgment:

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:23 (KJV)

This is why we need salvation and why overcoming sin matters so deeply.

Conclusion:
Sin is serious because it offends a holy God.

The good news is Christ came to forgive sin and free us from its power.
